The decision to build the loft was the start of what has now become The Shaker Loft Bed & Breakfast. As part of the original construction of the home, the area over the two-bay garage was open storage space that held treasures and memories from previous homes. As her children grew older and began their own families, Genna decided to reclaim that space and make it part of her home again.
As family and friends (and even the carpenters) badgered her to explain what this remodelling was going to result in she flippantly replied that it was to be a Bed and Breakfast. Begun in the fall of 1992, the project was finally finished late the next year. A 12 foot dormer along with a stand alone heating and cooling system complimented the kitchenette and full bath to make the area a perfect self-contained suite.

The private residence that is The Shaker Loft Bed & Breakfast was built in 1987-88 by the current owners' mother. The site, a little more than an acre of wooded ground on a 66-acre lake, was chosen for the peaceful serenity it offered. At the time, no thought had been given to actually making the residence into anything more than it was, a home in which to enjoy family and friends.
